The Trinity Story

Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church is a relatively new congregation by church standards.  The first ministries done by Lutherans in Towanda, was done by Pastors H.G. Deisher and J.D. Keener of Dushore Parish, who started worshiping with only a few families in the home of M/M Elwood Kunes in 1940-42.  However, Trinity Parish grew dramatically through house-to-house visits in 1955, initiated and carried out entirely by the Rev. Donald R. Gebert of St. John Church, Sayre, and the Rev. Charles A. Souders of Dushore.  We are forever grateful for their zeal and leadership.

Regular services were begun in October, 1955, and were held in various chapels and social halls until 1956 when we moved into a house that we called our own: Trinity Chapel.  The Rev. Maurice J. Hart, through personal interaction with the community, further developed the congregation, becoming its first pastor.

Our unique “round” church building was soon built and dedicated on Trinity Sunday in June 1965.  The fascinating, “contemporary” style still serves as the center of worship for families and individuals in and around the Towanda area today.  God has gifted the area with the witness and service of Trinity for over 50 years.  You are invited to become a part of that history.
